Common Weeds
While a lawn adds to the beauty and value of your home, weeds can be a big nuisance. Apart from interferring with the growth of turfgrass and garden plants, they also rob the soil of its rich nutrients. Not only are they unsightly and sometimes choke out the healthy turf, they can cause bigger problems if left untreated.  The goal is to completely eradicate the weeds and leave nothing but a healthy, lush lawn.  This can be accomplished in a number of ways.  First, through pre-emergent pesticides which prevent the germination of the weeds in the first place.  Second, is the application of post-emergent herbicides.  Once a weed is visible, pre-emergents will do nothing to deter the growth of the species.
Then, the key is proper identification of the weed and once identified we can create a strategy for its eradication.

WEED IDENTIFICATION

STRATEGY for ERADICATION
Certain weeds grow at certain times of the year.  WINTER WEEDS are prevalent during the colder months of the year and tend to die-off as temps reach 70 degrees or higher.  Likewise, SUMMER WEEDS grow best in warmer months and seem to pop-up overnight.  They are fast growing and fast spreading.  They must be dealt with swiftly to protect cool season grasses such as fescue.
